Department has been actively engaged in the cryospheric program of ICIMOD (2011 – 2015) as a partner institute. Through this program, the department has been receiving various trainings and equipments.
In May 2009, the department has signed a MoU with the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing for the collaborative research on Hydro-Meteorology of Himalaya/Tibetan Plateau regions. In 2009, studies on three potentially dangerous glacial lakes of Nepal Himalayas were conducted with ICIMOD/ World Bank.
In 2009, an awareness program on Climate Change Impact on Agriculture was conducted at Dhunche with the assistance from WWF-Nepal.
In April 2009, Aerosol and Meteorological measurements were carried out by this department at three locations namely; Ghanapokhara (Lamjung), Surkhet and Dhangadhi. The collaborative partners were NASA, University of Maryland, Duke University and Kathmandu University. Financial support was from Science System and Application Inc. (SSAI) USA.
Since 2009 the department has been observing high altitude meteorological data at Thukla (4600 msl) and Lukla (2700 msl) of Solukhumbu District and at Surkhet with co-operation from City College of New York, USA.
